The Philanthropic Parent
A high net worth client with a large, complex estate was a noted philanthropist who made considerable donations of time and money. The client wanted his adult-aged children to continue the family’s charitable legacy.
The client was concerned about how to include the children in the family’s charitable giving process without disclosing the full amount of his personal wealth.
Washington Trust worked out a timeline to communicate the estate plan to the family in comfortable stages. We helped the client organize a series of annual family meetings to discuss selected parts of the estate plan, philanthropic goals and activities, and will continue the learning process at a modified pace.
- The children are now more engaged and active in adopting the family’s charitable endeavors
- The client feels that his family’s charitable legacy has been preserved
